The Play is Over, but the Marriage Continues

Last Friday and Saturday, my 1st show at Rock Springs High School concluded. We presented All in the Timing by David Ives, which is a collection of six one-act comedies. The shows are all incredibly funny and odd. The first, Sure Thing is about a man and a woman who meet in a cafe and attempt to strike up a relationship. Every time one or the other says something wrong, however, a bell rings and they have to rewind and try again. The second play, Words, Words, Words is about three monkeys attempting to write Hamlet. The third play, The Universal Language is about a woman who has a terrible stutter attempting to learn Unamunda...which is a gibberish language and a con. The fourth play, The Philadelphia deals with a man who wakes up one morning and finds that he is stuck in a Philadelphia, which is a state of being in which he cannot receive anything that he asks for and must learn to speak in opposites. The fifth play, Variations on the Death of Trotsky is about the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky on his final day of life as he contemplates the meaning of life and death, all the while having a mountain climber's axe sticking out of his skull. The final play, Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread is a play done in Glassian style, in which one theme is repeated and then slightly varied and then repeated and then varied and so on. Philip Glass comes into a bakery to buy a loaf of bread and runs into an old girlfriend. The 5 or 6 lines that take place in real time end up taking about 10 minutes when the scene shifts into Glassian style. It's very odd and hysterical.

Also, on the 16th, Sarah and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. We sent the kids off to a babysitter, and had a very nice dinner and spent some time with one another sans children. It was a great deal of fun. We so rarely get a chance to go out without the kids that it felt sort of odd at first. But that didn't last long. Thanks to everyone that sent cards and emails. We appreciate it!
